Dear Алек
,
If you want to take the pulse of the global climate movement today, take a look at what’s happening in the Philippines.
We were there last week as former US Vice President Al Gore headlined the latest Climate Reality Leadership Corps training for activists and influencers in Manila. And with the nation getting hit by one devastating storm after another in recent years, you’d think that all anyone would be talking about was the destructive side of climate change. But instead, what we saw was incredible energy for solutions with people talking about how we could move forward and create a future where these storms are less intense.
It wasn’t just at the training itself, either, where new Climate Reality Leaders were hungry to learn about the future of clean-energy solutions and hear stories of resiliency after Typhoon Yolanda (known internationally as Typhoon Haiyan). It was also in the extraordinary media attention and public interest in every aspect of the training. Which tells us there’s a real movement growing in the Philippines, and we wanted to share some of the press we received and share this energy with you.
AL GORE VISITS YOLANDA “GROUND ZERO" – Vice President Gore began his time in the Philippines with a visit to Tacloban, one of the cities hit hardest by Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013. During the visit, Vice President Gore met with families in local villages who were affected by the storm.
ATMOSPHERIC RIVERS ARE CONNECTING THE PHILIPPINES AND THE US – Vice President Gore sheds light on the role climate change has played in the intensification of two “atmospheric rivers” between the Philippines and the US, which have led to severe rain events and floods in the US.
THE PHILIPPINES: LEADING THE WAY IN THE CLIMATE FIGHT – Climate Reality Project CEO Ken Berlin gives his take on the role of the Philippines in leading the fight against climate change.
AL GORE AND MY CLIMATE STORY – Training speaker and Dean of Ateneo School of Government Antonio La Viña, shares his personal story about what led him to become a climate activist and to get involved with the Climate Reality Leadership Corps.
We hope you enjoy these articles. And remember that the movement growing in the Philippines is growing all around the world. If you want to get involved and learn more about how you can make a difference for the future of our planet, sign up below for more information about the Climate Reality Leadership Corps.
Thanks for all that you do,
- Your friends at Climate Reality
